Mrs. Riess Laid -To Rest Sunday At Elkhart Lake

Elkhart Lake. Wis.-- Funeral services for Mrs. August Riess who passed away last Thursday at the home of her daughter Elizabeth Mathias, were held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the Raeder Funeral home, the Rev. F. J. Lowenbergh officiating.
During the services Mrs. Owen Rowland sang a few hymns accompanying herself at the organ. Interment was in the Elkhart Lake cemetery. Pallbearers John Brickbauer, Jacob Dessloch, George Gerhard, John Kraemer, Theodore Hungsberg and August Struck.
Mr. and Mrs. Riess were pioneer settlers of Elkhart Lake. They operated a store and tavern here from 1878 until 1899 when they sold the business and retired and lived here until their demise. Mr. Riess preceded her in death in March 1939. The couple had the honor to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary January 7, 1937.
Coming from out of town to attend the services were Mrs. Ida Neuhaus and son, Richard of St Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Engelman and Mr. and Mrs. J. Sell of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Engelman of Appleton; Phillip Reichert, Conrad Zimmermann and Mrs. Nettie Helgaman of Stratford, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Menne, Jacob Jugenheimer and daughter, Miss Phyllis of Kiel, and many others from this village and vicinity.
