The Whitney Messenger, Whitney, Texas, April 1925 - "Ike Behringer Passes Away."
"Ike Behringer died at his home near Whitney at 2:30 a.m., April 20, 1925, after an illness of long duration, aged 68 years, 1 month and 23 days.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., April 20, at Bethlehem Cemetery, conducted by Rev. A. H. Mahaffey, after which interment was made with Scruggs & Bonds in charge of the arrangements.
Ike Behringer was born Feb. 27, 1867 in Fayette County, Texas. He lived there until he was 21 years of age. He was married to Miss Alice Redkey October 31, 1893. Six children were born into this union, five of whom survive as follows:
Mrs. Frank Petty, Mrs. Wriley Shelton, Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Mrs. L. W. Harris, Mrs. L. Peacock, Andrew Behringer, age 13.
He has three living brothers, as follows: Joe Behringer (address not known); Kit Behringer, Meridian; A. E. Behringer, Elgin, Texas; and three sisters as follows: Mr. T. L. Kennedy, Blum; Mrs. Ross Goode and Mrs. Vada Daughtry, Elgin, Texas.
Mr. Behringer came to Hill County in 1906 and to the Whitney Vicinity in 1907.
"Old Man Ike," he liked to be called that loved his family, his home, his community, and his friends. His love and his friendship meant more than passing civility. He proved them by kindness and acts of devotion. In sorrow and distress he was stoical and patient. His patience was heroic and his optimism was unfailing. Self sacrificing as a man his constant thought was of doing something for others. Even when so afflicted he might have thought of none but himself, he daily discussed the interests of others and tried to do and plan for them.
____________passed on. His deeds, his virtues and foibles whatever they were, can never be written in history, but they are written in the hearts of relatives and friends and of children, and in the Book of the _____Account, and his records, we think, is good-very good."
