Mr. Porter Weaver, retired Lt. Col. Georgia State Patrol, 73, of Cleveland died Aug. 9, 2007.
A native of Haralson County, Mr. Weaver was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He served as Chief of Police in Dahlonega from 1953 to 1954; served with the Georgia State Patrol from 1954 to 1971 and 1973 to 1979, where he obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel during his service with the Georgia State Patrol; served on the Georgia Tech Security from 1971 to 1973; and served as Chief Deputy with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Department from 1982 to 1988. He was a member of the Georgia Sheriffs' Association and the POAB and he was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his brother, Wilson Weaver.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eloise McCrary Weaver of Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Lena Weaver of Dallas, Scott Weaver of Waveland, Miss., and Victor and Beverly Weaver of Atlanta; daughter, JoAnna Weaver of Covington; grandchildren, Courtney Weaver of Conyers and Hannah Puckett of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Doug Wessinger of Atlanta; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Alton Villyard of Gainesville.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Mason & Ward Funeral Home. Chaplin Steve Medcaff will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason & Ward Funeral Home.
