He had been suffering from the effects of this malady for some twelve or fifteen weeks. He bore his sufferings with remarkable fortitude. His family, physician and friends were untiring in their devotions, seeking in every way to relieve the sufferer. He retained his appetite and cheerfulness to the last moment.
Capt. John Harvey was a native of Bryan county, GA. He would have been 78 years old next October. He was a soldier in the Florida Indian War, and commanded a Confederate company in The Civil War. He was for many years a minister of the Primitive Baptist church. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Florida and taught in the public schools many years. A great many received their education from the old man. He had been a county commissioner for many years. He was a life-long Democrat.
