Actress. Popular American motion picture and television actress of the 1950s thru 1980s. She won a Golden Globe award in 1961 for "Most Promising Newcomer." She wrote and produced the 1980 television movie The Children of An Lac which chronicles Balin's efforts to assist American Red Cross volunteer Betty Tisdale in rescuing Vietnamese children from a Saigon orphanage by flying them out of the country before the city fell to the communists in the spring of 1975.
