Samantha lived to age 92, dying at her daughter's home in Tappan, Ohio of heart disease. She lived long enough to see her granddaughter, Zetta Samantha Cox Gatchell named after her.
This was certainly an unfortunate family, however. Samantha outlived her namesake, Zetta, who died at 31 of "consumption". Zetta's husband, Job Workman Gatchell died under very suspicious circumstances after falling into a creek, which Samantha also lived to suffer through. No wonder she smoked a corn cob pipe, as family legend has it!
Samantha Wright Cox was buried on 25 May, 1929, with Rev. John Pringle officiating.
