Josiah “Baucom” was present during the 1800 Census for Hillsborough Twp, Wake Co., in North Carolina. There were a total of seven family members: 2 males under 10, 1 male (Josiah) 26 to 44 years old, 2 females under 10, 1 female age 10 to 15, and 1 female (wife) age 26 to 44.
In 1810, Josiah “Bockum” lived in Anson Co., NC and his household numbered 10. There was 1 male under 10; 2 males 10 to 15, 1 male (Josiah) age 26 to 44, 3 females under 10, 1 female 10 to 15, and 1 female (wife) age 26 to 44. In the 1830 Census, he is still living at the same residence.
It is believed he followed his son to Tennessee. Here his name is spelled “Baucum” and he lived in Fayette Co., TN. He was age 60 to 70 living next door to Daniel Baucum. In his household there was one daughter age 20 to 30 and a (wife) age 50 to 60.
Another record I found about his wife was in the Fayette County, TN Court Minute Book B, 1840-1844, page 521: Sarah Baucum allowed $20.00 for keeping Josiah Baucum, a pauper. (In margin – Issued to _. F. Owens). Source: TN State Library & Archives; 403 Seventh Ave North; Nashville, TN 37243-0312. The document was dated Monday 1 April 1844.
Josiah died before the 1850 Census and lived in TN. His death is listed on page 507 (see 1848) in the book: Marriage and death notices in Raleigh register and North Carolina State gazette, 1846-1893; (Digital Source Ancestry.com).
A posthumous connection to Josiah and Sarah was mentioned in a marriage record of their son Gillium (Gilliam) Baucom and his second wife Elizabeth McLendon on 29 May 1879 in Anson County, North Carolina, USA.
