DEATH OF VETERAN SOLDIER.
George Shaner died at Glasgow Friday from disease incurred in the army, from which he had been a sufferer for many years. Mr. Shaner was born in Westmoreland County, Penn., January 15th 1840. He came to Iowa with his parents three years later, and grew to manhood at New London. He enlisted in Company K, Sixth Iowa Infantry, at that place in June, 1861. He was with the Army of the Tennessee in the battles of Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge, escaped without a wound, and was mustered out April 15th 1865. Mr. Shaner was married to Mary E. Lyman at New London October 3d 1872. They have five children, all of whom were with the father in his last hours. A.L. lives in Burlington, Charles I., Ory J. and Lea G. at Glasgow, Mrs. A.J. Fulton (sic. James A. Fulton; Ara B Shaner Fulton) in this city. The body was buried at Glasgow Sunday with Masonic honors. Rev. J. Lee had charge of the funeral.
