Dr. Lewis D. BOOKWALTER died Saturday at Ansonia, Conn. at the home of his daughter. He was the father of Mrs. Sid FRINK, and a former pastor of the Congregational Church in Hiawatha. His body was brought to Hiawatha for burial in the Hiawatha cemetery beside his wife who died 25 years ago Wednesday morning. Several from Fairview attended the services at the grave Wednesday.

Former U. B. Pastor In Dayton is Dead

Dr. Lewis D. BOOKWALTER, who served as pastor of the First United Brethren church, Dayton, from 1888 to 1894, died Saturday at the home of his daughter at Ansonia, Conn., at the age of 89 years.

Dr. BOOKWALTER, a retired minister, served as president of two Ohio colleges, Western at Toledo, for 10 years and Otterbein, at Westerville, for five years. Besides serving as pastor in Dayton, he also was in the ministry at Kansas City, Welborne, Hiawatha and Muscoto, Kan.

The funeral service will be held in the First Congregational church at Ansonia, of which his son-in-law is pastor.

Was President of Two Ohio Colleges

ANSONIA, Conn. Nov. 30 (AP) - Rev. Dr. Lewis D. BOOKWALTER, 89, who served two colleges in Ohio as president, died today at the home of his daughter.

A retired minister, Rev. Dr. BOOKWALTER was president of Western College at Toledo for 10 years and president of Otterbein College at Westerville for five years. Western College has since merged with Coe College at Cedar Rapids, Ia.

Rev. Dr. BOOKWALTER was born near Hallsville, O., son of Rev. Isaac and Phoebe (JOHNSTON) BOOKWALTER. He was graduated from Weston College, Iowa, in 1872 and later from the Union Biblical Seminary at Dayton, O.

Rev. Dr. BOOKWALTER, who retired from the ministry 11 years ago, served church at Dayton, O. and Kansas City, Welborne, Hiawatha, and Muscoto, Kan. He had lived here with his daughter, Mrs. Otto W. BRUTNER, for eight years.

After retiring from the ministry he visited daughters at Peiping, China, and Ceylon. While in China he taught English to a class of Chinese young men in the University of Peiping, and tutored high Chinese officials in English.

He leaves six children, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a brother.

The funeral will be held Monday at the First Congregational Church, of which his son-in-law is pastor. He will be buried beside his wife, who died 25 years ago, at Hiawatha, Kan.
