"Lucy Vaughan Bennett
SPARTA — Lucy Vaughan Bennett, 93, died at home on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lafayette, she moved to Sparta more than 69 years ago.
Mrs. Bennett was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, F.W. Bennett and Son Excavating, Sand and Gravel in Sparta from 1938 until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newton.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Vincent Bennett in 1985; her parents, Judson V. Vaughan and Edna M. Simmons; two brothers, Paul Vaughan and Jay Vaughan; and three sisters, Marjorie Mahnken, Leonora Murphy and Frances Vaughan.

Mrs. Bennett is also survived by one brother, Daniel L. Vaughan of Lafayette; one sister, E. Marie Vaughan of Lafayette; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Iliff-Ruggiero Funeral Home at 156 Main St., Newton, (Iliff-Ruggierofuneralhome.com). Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sparta Presbyterian Cemetery in Sparta.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in Mrs. Bennett's name to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice, Newton, or to the First Baptist Church of Newton."
