The Rev. Emmett Meek (93), Missoula, Mont., passed away Dec. 30.

He was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Muncie, the son of Wesley Odus and Cecelia Grace (Freeman) Meek. He grew up in Indiana and Ohio. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater at Guadalcanal, and then attended college at God's Bible School, Cincinnati, Ohio.

On May 30, 1952, he married Wanda Reiber at his parents' home in Rochester. He became a minister and took his first church in Confluence, Ky. He also pastored churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, Missouri and Illinois. He retired to Rochester where he and his wife resided until November 2010, when they moved to Missoula to be near family.

Emmett and Wanda enjoyed serving their various congregations through their music. They sang gospel music in many churches and in camp meetings across the country, accompanied by Wanda on the accordion. Emmett enjoyed preaching to his congregations and visiting in their homes during the week. With his outgoing, friendly manner, he never met a stranger. He loved God, his congregations, and his family. He is greatly missed by those he loved.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Meek; one son the Rev. Jon (Miriam), Missoula, Mont.; two daughters, Ruth (Arthur) Schaper, Defiance, Mo., and Mary (Don) Spiker, Wentzville, Mo.; one sister Ruth (Raymond) Enyart; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Wesley and Cecelia Meek; and two sisters, Helen Bright and Olga Cook.
