WAS MEMBER OF PROMINENT FORT WAYNE FAMILY
Had Been Ill Three Weeks of Typhoid-Pneumonia, But Seriously So Only Since Last Friday-Was Conscious Until the End
Otto John Peters died Wednesday night at 12 o’clock of typhoid-pneumonia at the residence of his parents, Mr and Mrs JC Peters, 832 West Wayne street. Mr Peters had been ill for the past three weeks, but his condition had not been regarded as serious until last Friday, when a gradual change for the worse began. At about 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon he began to sink and at midnight passed peacefully away. He retained consciousness almost to the very end, recognizing his friends and members of the family.
Mr Peters was twenty-seven years old. He was born in Fort Wayne October 1, 1879 and received his early school training in the German schools here. Later he attended the Howe Military academy at Lims, Ind and upon leaving school, accepted a position as salesman in the JC Peters company hardware store. When this was sold to H Pfeiffer & Sons he took a position with Wayne Knitting mills as apprentice, later becoming a traveling salesman for the company, having the entire state of Indiana for his territory. This position he held up to the time of his final illness. Mr Peters was a most successful young business man and socially was widely known and very popular. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church.
The surviving relates are the parents, Mr and Mrs JC Peters, four brothers – FC Peters, AH Peters, PW Peters and WF Peters-and three sisters, Flora, Helen, and Berta Peters. Fort Wayne Journal Gazette - December 13, 1906
