Born to JC Peters and Mary (Meyers) Peters. He was a graduate of Purdue University in 1904 and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was Vice-president at Horton Manufacturing Co. in Fort Wayne, a company owned by his father. He invented and filed for patents on numerous washing machines and associated parts, the company's primary business.

In October 1932 he married Mary (Babcock) Ludlow and adopted her two children, Ann and Guilford.
