There appears to be a fair amount of difference as to where Joseph Bedle/Beedle was born. As far as I'm aware, no location has been absolutely proven (if you have proof, send/post it) but one thing is close to 100% definite, it was NOT in either Morgantown, PA (though they may have passed through that area on their journey) or Morgantown, VA (now WV) as mentioned in a DAR report (source of most of the confusion) and in many trees. Neither "MT" was founded or had inhabitants anywhere close to 1749, the calculated birth year for Joseph. The VA/WV MT was founded by a pair of Morgan brothers in the early-mid 1760's and the PA location closer to 1770 by a different Morgan family.

The facts appear to show that the confusion arises from them (Joseph Jr. and Joseph Sr. and (probable) cousin Francis living "together" in MORGAN TOWNSHIP, Washington (now Greene) County, PA from about the fall of 1775 (when it was Westmoreland County, PA or West Augustus County VA (depending on who you backed in the PA/VA border dispute) to definitely 1781 when Morgan Twp and Washington County, PA were formed until about 1789 when both (probable) cousins and their families moved together to KY (briefly) and then to OH (1st to Columbia in Hamilton Co, then to what became Warren County) before Joseph Jr. moved to Miami County, OH and then to Indiana.

How does NJ fit in? Francis states in his pension application that he "removed with the family of his father" (meaning to me both his mother and father had died and Joseph Sr was an uncle but no absolute proof) moved from NJ in the fall of 1775. Until real evidence arises to prove otherwise, "New Jersey" appears to be the most likely birthplace for Joseph and "Morgantown" in any location is "out" (except they may have stopped in Morgantown, PA on their way). In the 19th and early 20th centuries, it would have been very easy to confuse Morgantown, VA with Morgan Township as information was passed along.
