Maywood was born July 15, 1937, in Berkeley County, son of Ernest Gaskins and Lottie Lucile Ackerman Gaskins.
He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son – Maywood M. Gaskins and his companion, Patsy Weatherford, of Macedonia; a daughter – Betty Mixson and her husband, Ray, of Moncks Corner; four sisters – Ernestine Faulk and her husband, Guy, of Bethera; Weasie Thames and her husband, William of Macedonia; Myrtis Burbage and her husband, Al, of Charleston; and Jeanette Murphy of Bethera; two brothers – Eddie Gaskins and his wife, Cathy, of Bethera; and Levie Gaskins and his wife, Barbara, of Lamberttown; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; best friend – Mike Gaskins; and special friend and family helper, Pam Gaskins. He was predeceased by a sister – Christine Gaskins Adkins and a grandson – Jesse Mckinley Gaskins.
