SACRED
To the Memory
JOHN DEVLIN ESQ.ʀ
Who after faithfully serving
His generation, was gathered
To his Fathers 2nd July 1850
Aged 78 Years 5 Months
And 21 Days
Having through a long and usual
Life exemplified the reality
Of that religion he professed
In the immediate prospect of death
He was enabled by faith to say
I know in whom I have honored
And with Paul I have fought a good
fight I have finished my course.
Henceforth there is laid up for me
A crown of righteousness which
The Lord the righteous Judge.
Shall give me at that day
And now through dead he yet
Speaketh and his language is he ye
Followers of them who through faith
And patience now inherit
The promises
Mark the perfect and behold
The man of uprightness
His latter end is peace.
