Richard E. "Dick" Carnes, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at 1:01 a.m. at home with his family at his side.
He was born May 29, 1928, in Bellefontaine to the late William A. and Carmine A. Patrick Carnes. He also was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Carnes and a sister, Donna June Slonecker.
On June 29, 1946, in Rushsylvania he married the former Madalene Titus, who survives, along with a daughter, Pamela (Larry) Flora of West Liberty; a son, Gary (Marilyn) Carnes of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Krista (Mathew) Henry of Bellefontaine, Greg Flora of Urbana, Bradley (Amber) Carnes of Rushsylvania and Courtney (T.J.) Yoder of DeGraff; greatgrandchildren, Ava Flora of Urbana, Joshua and Preston Carnes of Rushsylvania, Hayden Yoder of DeGraff and Jackson Henry of Bellefontaine; and a brother-in-law, Elton Slonecker of Sidney.
Richard served two years in the U.S. Army and worked for 27 years at the Bellefontaine Fire Department. After retirement he continued self-employment in heating and plumbing. He was involved with the Bellefontaine Masonic Lodge 209, Antioch Shriner's Funster Clown Unit and the Logan County Shrine Club.
He also was a life member of the First United Methodist Church of Bellefontaine and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping clubs and his grandchildren.
A funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Monday in Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Ed Beale officiates. AMasonic service begins at 7:45 p.m. Sunday. Burial is in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main St., Bellefontaine.
