My great grandmother, Marie Moore Greneker, was born on the 12th of January 1877 in Augusta, Georgia. Her parents were John W. and Alice Calhoun Moore. She had four sisters: Addie A. (1857-1943), Emma M. (1864-), Clara M. (1870-1929), Minnie M. (1872-1940) and three brothers: Charles W. (1856-1934), Theophilus J. (1859-1939) and David Calhoun (1860-1886).

On May 2, 1900, Marie Moore married, Eugene Ferguson Greneker, son of Thomas F. and Cornelia Sligh Greneker from Newberry, South Carolina. Eugene's father was the publisher of The Newberry Observer. The wedding took place at the First Christian Church in Augusta, GA. They had four children: Elizabeth Sligh (1901-1987), Gene "G.G." (1904-2000) and twins – Pickens Calhoun (1910-1973) and Eugene Ferguson, Jr. (1910-1993).

Mamée, as her grandchildren & family called her, was a typical southern lady of grace and charm. Mamée was an active member of the First Christian Church and sat of the board of the Mary Warren Home for Widows. She was known through the community for her incredible dinners that was opened to anyone that came to the door. After her husband died, Mamée let other widows and un-married spinsters live in her home.

As Augusta grew and became a ‘urban' town, Mamée was one of the first to move into The Maxwell House; a ten story apartment building that offer luxury living in the heart of the old neighbor of Green Street. There she lived well into her 80's before moving in with her daughter Pickens across the river in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Mamée died on December 14th,1966. She is buried at Westover Memorial Park Cemetery, next to her husband Eugene Ferguson Greneker; her sister Minnie M. Moore, her brother Theophilus J. Moore and her granddaughters: Betty (1924) and Marie (1930-1951) Gaston.
