LaFAYETTE, GA -- Jewel "Judy" Nelson, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, February 25, 2010, after a courageous battle with Congestive Heart Failure.

She was born in Walker County Aug. 7, 1927 to the late Mary and Mack Nelson. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by Jesse W. Hobbs, the father of her two daughters; sister, Ruthie Strickland; brother, Bud Nelson; special niece, Wanda Strickland McElmore; and special brother-in-law, Johnny Madaris.

Judy was of the Baptist faith.

She was employed at Crystal Springs Print Works for 33 years, after leaving there she worked as a caregiver and taking care of friends brought a joy to her life.

She enjoyed camping, needle work, gardening and canning the things she grew.

Judy is survived by her beloved companion, Mike Allmon, LaFayette; daughters, Mary Ann (Lamar) Rush, Chickamauga, Nancy Gallups, Fort Oglethorpe; granddaughters Marla Rush, Summerville, Tiffany Ann Rush, East Ridge; grandsons, Christopher Rush, Chickamauga, Brian Thompson, Red Bank, Craig Thompson, Dalton; great-granddaughters, Madison and Kelsey Thompson, Red Bank; sisters, Betty Madaris, Chickamauga, Elizabeth Strickland, Rossville; brothers, Bobby Nelson, Grady Nelson, both Chickamauga; 11 nephews; 10 nieces and several great-nephews and nieces also survive.

Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. Service conducted by nephew, Dustin Madaris.

Pallbearers are Christopher Rush, Craig Thompson, Brian Thompson, John Madaris, Rick Allmon and Paul Lubash.

Interment in Chattooga Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. today.

The family would like to say "Thank you" to Hospice of Chattanooga and Staff at NHC of Rossville for the loving care they showed for Judy in the seven months she was at NHC.
