"Mary (Ruhr) Kranz, 87, of Shore Acres Avenue, passed away July 9, 2010, at the Scallop Shell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, R.I. She was the wife of the late Cmdr. Arthur C. Kranz, USN (Ret.).

Born in Hastings, Minn., she was the adopted daughter and only child of the late Martin and Hazel (Wood) Ruhr.

Mrs. Kranz received a B.S. in English from the College of St. Catherine in 1944. Mrs. Kranz raised six children as the spouse of a career military officer. She received her master's degree in counseling at the age of 64 from the University of Rhode Island. Before retiring, she was active as a co-moderator with Women for Sobriety in R.I. and was a substance abuse counselor at the former Good Hope Center in West Greenwich. She was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

She leaves four sons, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School St., North Kingstown, followed by the burial at R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter." ...
