Evelyn Goodnight Basinger

Mrs. Basinger of Charlotte died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

She was born in Mooresville July 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Flynn Miller Goodnight and Elizabeth Lyerly Goodnight.

In 1941 she married G. William (Bill) Basinger, the love of her life for sixty years, who preceded her in death in 2002. Upon Bill's discharge from the U.S. Army in 1947, they moved to Charlotte, where Evelyn pursued a career as executive secretary in the business world, and worked for three major companies: Buensod-Stacey, Akers Motor Lines and Rowe Corporation. In 1981 she retired as administrative assistant to the late Oliver R. Rowe. Evelyn was a former member of the RSES auxiliary, Piedmont Chapter, and served two terms as president. She was also a former member of the Charlotte Artists Society, and served as editor of its newsletter.

A member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church for over sixty years, she and Bill were charter members of the Miller Class (Mr. & Mrs.); a member also of UMW Circle #1.

Survivors include one son, G.W. (Bill) Jr. and wife, Deborah of Charlotte; two grandsons, Wesley of Charlotte, and Lee and wife, Brandi; great-grandsons, Rowen William and Davis Joe of Springfield, MO; and sisters, Sarah Troutman of Columbia, SC and Peggy Cashion of Mooresville. She is preceded in death by sisters, Mary E. Roach, Faye Brantley, and Hazel Ward and brother, Henry S. Goodnight.

A memorial service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.

Interment will be privately held at Sharon Memorial Park prior to the memorial service.
