Marilyn R. Patterson, 85, of Charlotte, NC and Rock Hill, SC, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2018 at Palmetto Health Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC. Marilyn was born in Gastonia, NC to the late William A. and Bessie T. Rankin. She was a long time resident of Charlotte, NC before moving to Lake Wylie in Rock Hill, SC.
After graduating from Belmont High School in 1950, she attended Kings Business College in Charlotte, NC. She retired from Duke Power Company as an executive assistant after many years of dedicated service.
Marilyn loved her family and friends always encouraging them to strive to be their best. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She was the family's historian due to her keen memory which she enhanced by her love for crossword puzzles and technology.
The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Monday, the 19th of March 2018 at Ellington Funeral Services. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 PM at Sharon Memorial Park.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Patterson, Sr., her son Timothy R. Patterson, brothers: Douglas J. Rankin, Donald T. Rankin and William B. Rankin.
She is survived by sons: James (Russ) R. Patterson Jr., William (Ted) T. Patterson (Angie), and daughter, Marilyn (Patti) P. Patterson; three grandchildren: Douglas, Jared and Spencer Patterson; sister-in-laws: Hazel Rankin and Margaret Gallman; brother-in- law, Paul Patterson (Jerri) and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of choice.

Patterson (wife Angie and sons Jared and Spencer) and sister Marilyn P. Patterson.
