Egerton Swartwout was born in Fort Wayne Indiana and grew up in Stamford Ct. He graduated from Yale University in 1891 after which he joined the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White. In 1900 he and Evarts Tracey formed their own firm Swartwout and Tracey. Together they designed such buildings as the Yale Club, U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington D.C., the Missouri State Capitol, the Denver Post Office, St. John's cathedral in Denver, Connecticut Savings Bank, and Milford City Hall. After Tracey's death Egerton continued architectural work with the the Elk's Veterans Memorial in Chicago, an addition to the Yale Art Museum, Bailey Fountain in New York, Montsec American Memorial in Montsec Lorraine #61954717, and Brookwood Memorial Chapel in England.
