Harley C. Hurd
Big Sandy--Harley C. Hurd, 76, a farmer and sports fan, died Wednesday in the Big Sandy Hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Burial will be in Big Sandy Cemetery.
Hurd was born March 16, 1917, at home in Big Sandy. He graduated from Big Sandy schools in 1935, and from Montana State University with a degree in economics. He returned to the family farm west of Big Sandy until retirement.
In 1938 he married Berneta Courtnage. They were later divorced. In 1955 he married Alma Foussard in Helena.
He served on the Chouteau County Fair Board, was a scorekeeper for high school basketball, and a downskeeper for football. He was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Big Sandy Swimming Pool project in the mid-1950s.
Survivors are his wife and two sons, Robin Hurd and Charles Foussard, all of Big Sandy; five daughters, Deana Genereux, Rita Robertson, both of Big Sandy, and Carol Peck of Dillon; Janet Baca of Denver; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter.
