Alma Marie Hurd
Big Sandy -- Alma Marie (Guibert) Hurd, 88, a long time Big Sandy resident, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her residence of natural causes. Cremation has taken place. Rosary services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church with Father Peter Guthneck officiating. Interment will follow at Big Sandy Cemetery.
Hurd was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Picton Township, N.D., to Hector and Alphonsine Lussier Guilbert. The family spoke only French. She learned English when beginning school at Picton Township. She was raised on the family farm near St. John, N.D.
On June 20, 1938, she married Authur Ren Foussard in St. John, N.D. The couple moved to Big Sandy in 1942. He died in 1953.
On Nov. 5, 1955, she married Harley C. Hurd in Big Sandy. He died in 1993.
Hurd was an active member of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed baking, crocheting afghans for family members and friends and cooking for large harvest crews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son, David, a daughter, Judy, and 15 siblings.
Survivors include sons, Charles Foussard and Robin Hurd; daughters, Deana Hurd Genereux, Jane Hurd Schwartz, Carol Foussard Peck, Rita Hurd Robertson, Janet Foussard Baca; a brother, Henry Guilbert; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
