He was a Mexican singer and songwriter.

Also known as El Pelavacas.

His name at birth was Rosalino Sanchez Felix.

He was born and raised in a poor family on a ranch called "las flechas" in Sinaloa, Mexico. His father was Santos Sanchez and his mother was Sannorina Feliz. He had 7 siblings. His father died when he was 6.

After one of his sisters was raped he reacted by killing the man. In 1977 he illegally immigrated to California to escape Mexican authorities.

The sister he had killed to protect was the one who introduced him to Marisela Vallegos Felix, who would give him two children; Adan Chalino Sanchez Vellejos and Cynthia Sanchez Vallejos. Marisela is from the border town of Mexicali, Baja California.

While at work one day he was introduced to Angel Parra, who became interested in his musical talents. Angel at first had doubts about his voice, but after Chalino released his first demo, his popularity began to grow in the Mexican American commuity.

By the late 1980's he was recognized throughout California. Requests came in for him to sing in various venues. He was paid in many ways, including cash, clothing, vehicles, and weapons.

He was first part of a norteno group called Los Cuatro de la Frontera, and later formed Los Amables del Norte.

He made a publicity breakthrough when, on January 20, 1992, he was performing at a club and a patron came up and shot him. He immediately returned fire with a gun of his own. By the end of the evening the patron was shot to death with his own gun. The shooting made not only made Spanish headlines but English ones as well, and was even on ABC's World News Tonight.

At his next Los Angels appearance the turnout was so large that the venue, El Parral, had to close it's doors 5 hours before he was to take the stage.

At a concert in Mexico, Chalino received a letter containing a death threat and walked off the stage immediately. On May 16, 1992, Chalino was being transported in a Chevy Suburban through the streets of Culiacan, Mexico. After about 20 minutes, the Suburban was driving near a secluded location when an unmarked Federal Police Vehicle intercepted them and forced them to the side of the road. The next day newspapers in Sinaloa read "Chalino Sanchez, kidnapped and executed".

Cause of death: murdered, executed

In the bio for his son, Adan, it has his first name as Marcelino, which is incorrect.
