Edward was the fifth child of William and Catherine Tucker (or Tuckar) the first english speaking resident of Macomb County. Edwards father, William, was captured by the Chippewa Indians on a raiding party to Virginia at the age of 11 along with his brother, Joseph. They were then raised by the Indians until adulthood in the vacinity of Detroit and became traders in Fort Detroit.
