She was the second wife of Silas Stewart. His first wife, Mary (Hendricks) Stewart, died of typhoid in Greensburg, Indiana in 1833. After his father died, he returned to Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania, where he married Rachel Fisher in the spring of 1835. She had also lost her father Matthias not long before. They returned to Greensburg where Rachel helped raise the four children from his first marriage (born 1824-1830). Rachel and Silas had one child of their own, Martha Jane Stewart, born in 1837.
