"Johannes Hall (Halsten), one of the pioneer settlers of this county, died Monday, September 17th, at his home on Root Prairie. The cause of death was old age, and it was hastened by an accident which Mr. Hall met with a few days previous, in falling and breaking an arm. Deceased was born in Ringebo, Norway, October 2nd, 1835, but had been a resident of this county for over 50 years, taking his farm as a homestead. He was twice married and is survived by his second wife and 13 children, most of them being scattered all over the United States. The funeral took place Thursday last week from the Root Prairie church and was largely attended."
