Alexander Kerr, founder of Kerr Glass Manufacturing Company, married Albertina Sechtem in 1910. Albertina died a year later after contracting typhus. Upon Albertina's deathbed request, Alexander donated their home to the Pacific Coast Rescue and Protective Society for use as a nursery. This was the beginning of what is today, the Albertine Kerr Centers for children with developmental disabilities.
