Husband of Margery de Burgh, daughter of Richard Mor de Burgh, Lord Connacht. They had one son, Theobald, 4th Chief Butler of Ireland
He and his wife owned several lands including the manors of Ardmaile and Kilmorakill. Theobald was created Justiciar of Ireland in 1247 and supported King Henry III in the baron wars.
Theobald was buried by his father at Arklow. Despite the friary was not built properly until his son founded it, he is reportedly buried here, perhaps what existed before the friary was built.
