William Rossman was born about 1789 in New York state. We do not know his exact birthdate or his parents at this time. We do know that he served in Captain Joel Clark's Company of the New York Militia during the War of 1812. He enlisted, and was a Private in rank.

After discharge from the New York Militia, William married Jerusha Warren, also of New York. They were married on the 16th of December in 1813 in Penfield, Monroe County, New York. In the 1820's, William and Jerusha took their young family and migrated to Madison, Lake County, Ohio. They helped to settle the Madison area there. Later on, they moved to Grand Ledge, Eaton County, Michigan.

William and Jerusha were blessed with at least eleven children. The children that we know the names of are: Julia Ann, Angeline E., Stephen, Lois, Harrison, Frank, Noyes, Ruth M., Jane, Hugh and William.

William died in Grand Ledge, Eaton County, Michigan on the 31st of August in 1865. We believe that he is likely buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township, Eaton County. The gravestone says, "Wm. Rossman, son of A. and ____."
