Worked on the Zeppelin as an Electrician.
The Hindenburg exploded over Lakehurst, New Jersey on May 6th, 1937. Josef was in the bow of the Zeppelin when it exploded, he escaped with Cook Alfred Grözinger and Elevatorman Kurt Bauer. They were the only survivors from the bow. Josef was burned on his face and hands, in fact the burns were so bad that he had to stay in the Hospital for one month. The scars of the fire never left him, but he still worked as an Electrician in his town of Lindau.
