Edna Higgins Alvis, 80, of Sandston, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Dudley Alvis, her parents Isabelle "Belle" and Samuel Higgins. She was one of thirteen children, eight of which preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters; Wanda Smart and her husband John, Janet Heflin and her husband Lloyd, and Judith Alvis, her son; Alvin Alvis and his wife Gail, grandchildren; John Smart Jr. (Tina), Christel Seidlitz (Steve), Keith, Jesse, Ben, Rachel, and Stacey Alvis, seven great grandchildren, brothers; Charles Higgins, Robert (Birdie) Higgins, sisters; Lula Horn, Theresa Mays (Buck), and Linda Dunlap.
She was retired from Kings Department Store and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 12, 2010, from 4 to 8pm, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road. Services will be held at 2pm, on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the funeral Home. Interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park.
