(December 5, 1934 - July 29, 2010)
Fred Chavez was born December 5, 1934 in Fontana, California, to Jesus Chavez and Lasara Alvarez. He was one of eight children. He was raised in Fontana primarily by his grandmother, Teresa Chavez, who helped shape his life and become the man he was in his adult years. He married his first wife, the former Helen Ally, in 1958, and together they had five children, Cynthia, Fred Jr. (Corkey), Monica, John, and Ron.
He later married Martha Westcott, and they were together for 32 years, moving to the mountains of Tehachapi in 2006. He passed away after a lengthy illness on July 29, 2010.
Fred enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, sports (especially baseball and football), golfing, fishing, camping, history, travel, and good food. He coached Little League for many years when his boys were young, and won several championships. He also loved his teal green lowered Chevy truck, and his Corvette. Fred was proud of the fact that he worked his entire life until he retired at age 71. He worked as a coater operator, slitter operator, and fork lift driver, among other positions.
Fred loved animals, and always had dogs and cats. He adored his two Yorkies, Cookie and Sammy, and also loved his Golden Retrievers, Champ and Honeybear. They all miss him terribly.
Fred is survived by his wife, Martha, brothers, Mike and Lupe, sisters, Ruby, Patty, and Linda, his five children, Cynthia, Fred Jr, Monica, John, and Ron, twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many other cousins and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and grandmother, as well as two brothers, Jesse and Oscar.
Services will be at Ingold's Funeral Chapel in Fontana, California. Viewing will be on Wednesday, August 4, from 5-8 pm. There will be a rosary at 7:00pm.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 5, at 10:00am, also at Ingold's Chapel.
Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, CA.
