Mrs. Barbara DeMallie, 91
KENNEBUNK, MAINE - Barbara (Cooke) DeMallie, 91, of Kennebunk, died Jan. 3, 2003, following a brief illness.
Born in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, on March 11, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Bertha (Runels) Cooke. She attended elementary and high school in Lowell and was an honors graduate of Simmons College, Boston.
She was an administrative secretary in the accounting department of the Saco / Lowell Corp. in Lowell. For many years, she and her former husband ran a hardware store in Westwood, Mass. After her retirement, she lived at Goose Rocks Beach for more than 30 years and was the assistant treasurer of the South Congregational Church in Kennebunkport for many years.
She was a member, along with many friends, of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Needlepointers. She was also a member of the Women's Association of the South Congregational Church, the Good Cheer Club and the Embroiderers' Guild of America.
She is survived by two cousins, Jane Charlton and Mrs. Miriam Runels DeMallie; one sister-in-law, Dorothy R. Cooke Reed; seven nieces and nephews, Bertha H. Safford, Martha J. Hanner, Wendy Cooke Taylor, Charles E. Cooke III, Richard T. Cooke, Ann Cooke Leggat, and William M. Cooke; and many grandnieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Charles E. Cooke Jr. and Henry M. Cooke, and a sister, Eunice C. Safford, predeceased her. She was blessed with many wonderful friends.
A loving celebration of her life was held in the spring.
