Carl "Brownie" Barnes, 70, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, in a local hospital.

He was of the Church of God faith.

He was a self-employed trucker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post 81.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Deelous Barnes and Mildred Robbie Dean Barnes; and three brothers: Claude Barnes, Edward Barnes and Brad Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Jerry Wilson Barnes of Cleveland; daughter, Rebecca "Bekki" Samples and husband, David, of Cleveland; Ann Ross, dear friend and caregiver of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Garrett Samples, Victoria Samples and Jacob Samples; two sisters: Willa "Sis" Hunter and husband, Wes, of Smyrna, and Dianna Raines of Cleveland; two brothers: Bobby Barnes and wife, Jean, of Ten Mile, and Larry Barnes of Cleveland: and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in the chapel of Fike Funeral home with Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Tyler Raines, Jeff Barnes, Garrett Samples, Johnny Sosebee, Steven Reed, Steve Kerr, Zane Waters, Ernest Herron and Jerry Herron will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
