Her Death Brought Sorrow to Many Friends in Rome
Rome, Feb 18 - Mrs. Anton Raffauf died early Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John T.S. Hyde, 619 North Madison Street. Her son, ex-Ald. Anton J. Raffauf, died the same day on the week before and grief over his passing hastened Mrs. Raffauf's death. The deceased, who name before her marriage was Gertrude Baulig, was born at Muehlheim near Kohlens, Germany, December 29, 1830, and came to this country with her parents and located in Ava, where in April 1858, she married Mr. Raffauf, who death occurred December 14, 1906.
December 16, 1871, Mr. and Mrs. Raffauf came to this city and took up their residence at 212 North Jay street, where his death occurred and where his wife had since resided until two weeks ago, when she went to spend some time with her daughter, Mrs. Hyde. Mrs. Raffauf was the last of her family. She leaves three sons, Jacob W. Raffauf, of Buffalo; Marcellus J., of this city and William Raffauf of Syracuse; also three daughters, Mrs. J.T.S. Hyde and Miss Rose Raffauf of this city, and Mrs. William Maegerle of Brooklyn. There are 24 grandchildren and one great grandchild also surviving.
Mrs. Raffauf was a member of St. Mary's Church and of the Altar Society and the Christian Mothers' Society of that church. She was a kind and charitable woman and during her long residence in this city she made many friends who deeply regretted to learn of her death. The funeral was largely attended from St. Mary's Church Thursday morning.
