Staff Sgt. Fayette McDonald, 80th Infantry Division, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal posthumously for meritorious service in France. The citation reads: “During the period from Nov 8, 1944 to Nov 25, 1944, S/Sgt. McDonald performed in an exceptionally meritorious manner his duties as a Tank Destroyer platoon sergeant. He was unfailingly assiduous in the efficient performance of both his combat and administrative duties. His compliance with the most arduous and hazardous of tasks with great courage and efficiency are commensurate with the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.” S/Sgt. McDonald was wounded in action in France November 25th, and died the following day.

Posthumous Award To Fayette McDonald. With the 80th Infantry Division in France – Major General Horace L. McBride, Commanding General of the 80th Infantry Division, has announced that Staff Sgt. Fayette McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight McDonald of Eubank and husband of Mrs. Blanche McDonald has been awarded posthumously the Bronze Star for meritorious service in France. The citation accompanying the award reads: “During the period from Nov 8, 1944, to Nov 23, 1944, S/Sgt. McDonald performed in an exceptionally meritorious manner his duties as a Tank Destroyer platoon sergeant. He was unfailingly assiduous in the efficient performance of both his combat and administrative duties. His compliance with the most arduous and hazardous of tasks with great courage and efficiency are commensurate with the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.” The citation is dated January 4, 1945. S/Sgt. McDonald, who graduated from Eubank High School in 1937, was wounded in action in France Nov 25 and died the following day. His wife and little daughter reside in Cincinnati. I have done extensive research he had one child, a daughter, which we do not know her name. According to City directories and her death certificate his widow's name was Blanche V. McDonald. She was born in Oregon, but we do not know anything about her life before she married Fayette.
