He enlisted in the Army on January 27, 1942 at Fort Deven's, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.
On 11/1/1944 Edwin and 8 other wounded soldiers and 6 German POWs were being transported on a C-47 airplane s/n 42-92700 from Luxeuil, France to a hospital in Naples, Italy. The plane encountered severe weather and crashed 12 Km SE of St. Chamond, France. There were no survivors.
He had previously been awarded the Purple Heart.
