12249- 9th (Service) Battalion (Pioneers)
Formed at Lichfield on 20 September 1914 as part of K3. Moved to South Downs, attached as Army Troops to 22nd Division. Moved to billets in Hastings in December 1914.
20 April 1915 : became Pioneer Bn and transferred to 37th Division.
29 July 1915 : landed at Le Havre

He died on the Battlefield during World War One at the Battle of the Somme and is buried at Outtersteene Communial Extn, Bailleul, France.
He was married to Eliza and they lived at 154 Normacot Road, Normacot, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. They had three children, Harold, Ada and Leslie. Leslie was my grandfather.
