SOLDOTNA, ALASKA - Joseph Procaccino, 88, of Soldotna, Alaska, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Heritage Place Nursing Home in Soldotna after an extended illness.
He was born September 30, 1921, in Logansport, Indiana. Joe is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Jacox) Procaccino of Soldotna; two sons, AJ (Donna) Procaccino and James (Sue) Procaccino; four stepchildren, Ellen (Carl) Kempf, Steve (Sharon) Nowicki, Theresa (David) Bollinger, Tom (Kathy) Nowicki; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandchild, Michael Kempf, great-grandchild, Lea Cage Rose Procaccino, and by 8 siblings, Jim, Lou, Tony, Hank, John, Mary, Jeanie and Angeline.
Joe served his country in both the Marines and the Army Air Corps in WW II. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a National Defense Medal. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, and belonged to the Operating Engineers Union for 45 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid golfer. Cremation took place in Soldotna, Alaska. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Danielson Funeral Home (Plymouth) on Saturday, August 28, 2010, with visitation at 10:00 AM and a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 922 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.
