Funeral services were held this afternoon for Mrs. Mary Behnken Behnke at the home of her son, Councilman Henry Behnke, Spring Valley Road, Paramus. The services at the home for the family at 2 o'clock were followed at 2:30 o'clock by a funeral at the Zion Lutheran Church of Maywood, conducted by the Rev. E.F. Miller.

Mrs. Behnke, who was 74 years old, died Saturday morning in the house that had been her home for 53 years.

Mrs. Behnke, then Mary Behnken, came to this country from Bremen, Germany, at the age of 14 years. She came with friends and had no relatives here at the time. A few years later she met her late husband, John Henry Behnke. With her husband, who died 23 years ago, she was among the pioneers of the Spring Valley Road section of Paramus.

She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church and one of the oldest members of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Zion Lutheran Church of Maywood.

Mrs. Behnke was the last of her family name of Behnken. Her own family consists of three sons and four daughters. They are Councilman Henry Behnke, Fred Behnke, and Richard Behnke, of Paramus; Mrs. Anna Waffenschmidt and Mrs. Clara Smith of Maywood; Mrs. Mary Ehret of Paramus; and Mrs. Katherine Nederer of Washington Crossing, N.J. She is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter, Marie Donaldson of West Englewood.

Paramus firemen paid their respects at the home yesterday afternoon as did borough officials, and scores of friends in Paramus and nearby towns who knew and called the deceased, Grandma Behnke.

Following the church services, interment took place in the family plot in the Hackensack Cemetery.
