Pietertje (often called Nellie) was the daughter of Hendrik Swets and Jannigje Gouwens. In 1882 she married Cornelius Braschler in Lansing, IL, and they had 10 children before he died at age 42. After his death from TB she packed up her entire clan (including the families her children)and moved them all to a homestead in the healthy land of New Mexico. After several years of draught and crop failures they gave up, and moved to Washington State. Many of the Braschlers dropped the "c" from the name, but I believe Pietertje retained it.
