Mr. Joseph Schmitt, the first settler of this place, died last Friday morning. At the time of his death he was 90 years, 7 months and 12 days old. He was the oldest inhabitant of this section. The funeral was held at St. Joseph's Church on Sunday and was conducted by Rev. Alois Kuchue of Sun Prairie.

On October 14, 1882, our beloved father, Joseph Schmitt, asleep in the Lord, aged 92 years and 7 months. He was the first settler in this town in the year 1845. [Last two lines could be: Bless all our friends and remember. . ]. Rest in peace.
