Born November 12, 1908 in Mansfield, Frances was the daughter of LeRoy and Emma Maude (Voegele) Benson and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
Instilled with a desire to mould and shape lives, Frances received her Bachelor's Degree of Elementary Education from Ashland College. She then remained in the Mansfield area, teaching 5th grade elementary for Mansfield schools.
On June 4, 1932, she married Kenneth Paul Curl and together they raised three children.
Frances enjoyed memberships in numerous local clubs and organizations where she established many lifelong friendships. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Astowela Garden Club, Richland County Retired Teachers, DAR, Mansfield Federation of Women, and Mansfield Liederkranz. She was also a member of numerous bridge clubs.
Frances was also a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
She loved her flower gardens and admired the beauty of Mansfield's Kingwood Center. Described as being "very bright" Frances was always learning something new. Even at the age of 100 Frances completed one to two novels each week. Interested in art and music she played the piano and enjoyed vacationing abroad, experiencing other cultures. Trips to Spain and Africa were a few of her favorites.
Tender hearted, Frances dearly loved her family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marilyn (Emil) Knorr of West Liberty and son and daughter-in-law Thomas Paul (Mary) Curl of O'Fallon, Missouri; grandchildren Kathryn (Lee) Bumbalough, Charles Griffin, Louisa (Brett) Schaffer, Fred (Sue) Knorr, Susan Knorr, Rodney Curl, Jeffrey (Laurie) Curl, Brett (Meg) Curl, Christina Pratt-Smith and Derek (Heather) Pratt; 19 great grandchildren; son-in-law William Pratt of London; nieces Martha Koozer, Mary Deane Willis, Betty Benson, Sharon (David) Williamson, nephews Dave Runk and The Rev. Wesley T. (Mary Beth) Runk; special friends Margaret Battisti and Phyllis McPhern; and numerous close friends from Wedgewood Estate.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Paul Curl who passed away June 29, 1981, her daughter Nancy Pratt, sister Helen Koozer, brother Albert Benson and sisters Mary Lane Runk and Edythe Louise Roser.
The Curl family will receive friends on Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 2 Marion Avenue. The Rev. Wesley T. Runk and The Rev. Dawn Donato will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
