He was the son of William R. Greenhalgh and Edith Quering Greenhalgh Brenner. His parents married in 1947 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their marriage ended in divorce and in 1954, his mother married William J. Brenner.

Glenn Brenner was a sports announcer in Washington, D.C. On May 25, 2010, Len Shapiro of the Washington Post wrote about the 10 'best ever' sportscasters in the Washington, D.C. area and number 3 was Glenn Brenner. The former pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies organization came to WUSA Channel 9 in 1977. Mr. Shapiro said that Brenner never took himself or his subject matter all too seriously, producing a highly entertaining sportscast that included his "weenie of the week" feature and a local nun picking NFL winners against the point spread. In 1991 Glenn learned he had a malignant brain tumor, which later led to his death in 1992. Statements were issued from then President Bush and even former President Reagan. Mr. Shapiro, a close friend of Glenn's, wrote a column back then on Mr. Brenner. In it, he pointed out how one Sister Marie Louise was one of Glenn's final visitors. Glenn was said to have managed to lift his head and wink at her. She was very good at predicting scores on many weekly NFL games and would share them with Glenn on some nightly broadcasts.
