Rock Musician. He was the original bassist for the group The Kinks. Born Peter Alexander Greenlaw Quaife, he helped form The Kinks in 1962 along with school friend Dave Davies and his brother Ray Davies. They evolved into a leading band of the 1960s "British Invasion", scoring Top 10 hits with "You Really Got Me" (1964), "All Day and All of the Night" (1965), and "Tired of Waiting For You" (1965). In 1969, Quaife departed to form the short-lived group Mapleoak, but left the music industry altogether in the early 1970s. Apart from one appearance with The Kinks during a concert in Toronto in 1981, he remained inactive as a performer and worked instead as a graphic artist, making his home in Canada and later in Denmark. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Kinks in 1990. Quaife had been undergoing treatment for renal failure since 1998. He drew a series of cartoons about the experience and collected them in a book, "The Lighter Side of Dialysis" (2004).
