Roseanna Vassar was born June 30, 1881 to Joseph Vassar and Marguerite Violette. She was their 6th child and 4th daughter, born in Otsego Township, Wright County, MN. She was baptized July 9, 1881 at St. John the Baptist Church in Dayton, MN. Her godparents were Alfred Beaudry and Vitalia Violette. She married Fred Grevious on July 4, 1899. They had 12 children.
Fred and Rose are listed in the 1905 Minnesota State Census in Washington County, Village of South Stillwater as follows: Fred Grevious age 33, he was born in Maine, both parents and his occupation listed as day laborer. Also listed in household were Rose, age 24, born in Minnesota and both parents born in Maine. Son Ernest, age 5 years.
Rose and Fred emigrated to Dunn County, ND between 1905 and 1910. On the 1910 census were listed Fred, age 38, Rose age 29, Ernest age 9, Harvey age 4 and Bernadette age 2, and Matthew age 13 months. Fred had a creamery and milk route in Killdeer, ND.
Rose had and entrepreneurial spirit; she ran a boarding house in Killdeer for a time which allowed her better access to schools for her children and later opened a cafe' in Killdeer called The Happy Day Cafe'. She suffered a stroke and died in 1936.
