Mr. David M. Hudgins

Hayes - Mr. David M. Hudgins, 33, a deputy with the Gloucester County Sheriff's department from 1977 to 1983, died Monday in Riverside Hospital, Newport News.

Hudgins, general manager for Old Dominion Security in Hampton, was a native of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School. He also graduated from Virginia Forensic Science Academy in Richmond and had an associate degree in business administration from Rappahannock Community College, Glenns.

He was an unsuccessful candidate for sheriff of Gloucester County in the November 1987 election.

He was a member of providence Baptist Church, Ordinary, and its church choir; Achilles Lodge 281, AF&AM; Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter 59; and Scottish Rite Consistory of Newport News; and was a former member of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department and Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Delia H. Hudgins; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Winfred M. Hudgins of Hayes; two sisters, Mrs. Mary H. Raddin of Richmond and Mrs. Dana H. Black of Arlington; a brother, J. Michael Hudgins of Hayes; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ashley Agnor of Chesapeake; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Hudgins of Hayes.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Thomas Gaskins and the Rev. William J. Corey. Burial with Masonic rites will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
